Casey Concelmo
My artwork is motivated by my passion for 13th to 15th century Italian Art. The craftsmanship and creativity used during these periods moves me to work in my studio.
I work in the medium of egg tempera painting on traditional gesso panel with occasional gold and metal leaf gilding.
Egg tempera is pigment mixed with the yolk of an egg (just the yellow part). When I paint, I break open an egg and use the yolk as my binder to paint with for a few days until it spoils and becomes too smelly to work with. I then break open another egg and start over.
Conceptually, my work varies from each piece that I produce. I do however; strive for each piece to express its concept with a clear narrative and sound design.
Casey lives and works in Sunnyside, NY.
