Francesca O'Malley
My first formal art training was at the Brooklyn Museum Art School. Eventually, I attended Pratt Institute where I earned a BFA and MFA in painting. Recent work in acrylics on canvas, is an exploration of space, dimension, light, symbol, and the fragmented human figure. These elements are often placed in contradiction to each other. Background images may be appropriated from NASA or from other satellite imagery. 3D lenticular work is the basis for a group of sculptural objects making use of obsolete technology from the 1950s. As a believer in interdisciplinary relationships, I sometimes incorporate typography into my work, and also hope to expand my knowledge of animation as an art practice.
