Artist Bio:
A native New Yorker, Sferra Rada lives and works in both Manhattan and Long Island. She has spent much time summering on Long Island beaches and escaping to the solitude of those same beaches for fall and winter retreats which has greatly influenced her minamalist vision. Sferra Rada began formal art studies after high school graduation at The Brooklyn Museum Art School, then received a BA in Fine Art cum laude from Hunter College, NYC, participated in the Master Painting Program IV at LIU/Southampton College, has been an artist in residence in Nantucket School of Art & Design twice, Cil Rialiag project on SW coast of Ireland, and an artist in residence three times with the Bau Institute in Puglia Italy. She is active in the NYC art community serving on the board of Artists Talk on Art as Secretary and as President of The Federation of Modern Painters and Sculptors. She is a member of National Assoc of Women Artists. She exhibits regularly in NYC and her work is in many private collections.
Artist Statement:
my work juxtaposes open, infinite spaces with closed, protected spaces, the small and the expansive, the real and the surreal, as seen in nature amidst the nuances of atmospheric changes. The unifying factor is my minamalist vision, bringing the opposites together in one expression of the moment. A landscape, seascape, sky or an object conveys a unique quality, not just by its own appearance but how it reflects its surroundings and projects its own energy in that context. It is that impression that stays with me and inspires me to begin. My subjects choose me.
