Artist Bio:
Visual artist MARIANNE BARCELLONA was born in Buffalo, New York, and grew up in Dallas,Texas. After earning her B.A. in Studio Art at Oberlin College in 1966, she moved to New York City to study at The New York Studio School of Painting, Drawing and Sculpture. In the late 60’s she shifted her focus to photography, and for 30 years managed a successful career as a freelance editorial photographer, traveling the globe on assignments for major international magazines, humanitarian organizations and Fortune 500 corporations. In the late 1990’s she decided to “get back on the painting horse” and returned to The New York Studio School to earn a Certificate in Painting. Since then, she has managed dual careers in both photography and painting, with the emphasis on painting.
Barcellona’s work has been included in over 100 exhibitions, and she has been awarded Fellowships at over 10 internationally-renowned Artist Residencies. She has taught professional, intensive drawing and landscape collage workshops in Montana, Canada, and Iceland, and been invited for ten consecutive years to present Visiting Artist Master Classes to Harvard’s incoming freshmen as part of their Freshman Arts Program.
Barcellona travels as much as possible to the landscapes that provide the inspiration for her paintings and collages. She lives in Manhattan, and maintains a studio in Long Island City
