Artist Bio:
Born and raised amidst the ever-evolving environment of Queens, New York, I discovered my passion for art in the nurturing environment of my uncle's studio. Guided by his expertise as an illustrator, my early exposure to visual storytelling ignited a lifelong artistic pursuit. Formal education at The Art Students League and Parson’s School of Design refined my skills and deepened my appreciation for visual expression. With a rich background spanning three decades in graphic and interior design, my artistic practice is grounded in a profound love for color and materials. As an active member of Long Island City Artists (LIC-A), I regularly exhibit at prestigious venues like Culture Lab, The Factory, Studio 34 Gallery, Atlantic Gallery, Astoria Art Center and Art Lives Here NYC.
Artist Statement:
My artistic practice explores the boundaries between the conscious and unconscious realms. Working with encaustic, watercolor, ink, graphite, and pastel, I create intimate yet expansive works that capture the subtle rhythms of life, often beyond direct observation. Encaustic, with its molten wax and pigment, allows me to build layers of texture and depth, symbolizing the complexities of memory and consciousness.
Drawing inspiration from the natural world and everyday experiences, I invite viewers to reflect on the connections between the self, the environment, and the hidden undercurrents of life. My work evokes introspection, exploring the tension between the seen and unseen, suggesting that much of our reality exists in the spaces between awareness and oblivion.
Incorporating abstraction, texture, and symbolic gesture, I blur the lines between representation and emotion, offering an immersive experience that engages both the visual and psychological. My art captures fleeting moments, impressions, and intuitive responses, revealing the ephemeral nature of perception and consciousness, while reflecting a profound sensitivity to human experience and the unseen forces that shape our lives.
