Lisa-Maria Maya
My goal is to capture and celebrate the beauty of nature without emulating it. Each painting begins with a free-form meditative drawing which is then actualized with vibrant colors of whatever medium suits the piece. Life can be cruel & ugly, but it can also be magical & beautiful, I want to encourage the viewer to refocus on the latter.
Born in Queens, NYC to immigrant parents from Spain and Puerto Rico I have been creating art since I can remember. I studied at the Art Students' League, NY, at the Interamerican University of PR, and graduated with an art education degree from NYU.
I have taught various grade levels and most recently led art workshops to adults. Painting murals in private and public places is most gratifying.
I work in my home art studio the Astoria, NYC.
